Adalberto Mondesí (Raúl Adalberto Mondesí) is an American Dominican-American professional baseball born on 27th July 1995 in Los Angeles, California. He is a shortstop for the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball (MLB). He is the first player in modern MLB history to make his debut in the World Series, doing so with the Royals in Game 3 on October 30, 2015, against the New York Mets.

On 27th July 2011, Mondesi signed with the Kansas City Royals receiving a signing bonus of $2 million. He made his debut in 2012 with the Idaho Falls Chukars of the Rookie-level Pioneer League finishing the season hitting .290/.346/.386 with three home runs in 50 games.

During the 2013 season, he played with the Lexington Legends of the Class A South Atlantic League. He hit for the cycle on May 27. He finished the season hitting .261/.311/.361 with seven home runs. He was named the Class A Lexington Player of the Year by the Royals at the end of the season.

He spent the 2014 season with the Wilmington Blue Rocks of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League and played for the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League after the regular season. Playing for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals of the Class AA Texas League during the 2015 season. He also appeared in the 2015 All-Star Futures Game.

Adalberto was previously known as Raúl Mondesí (and was sometimes referred to in media as Raúl A. Mondesí or Raúl Mondesí Jr.) when he signed with the Royals from 2015 to 2018. In February 2018 the Royals announced that he will be going by Adalberto Mondesi.

Adalberto said he went with his middle name so as to distinguish himself from his family members. His father is Raul Mondesi and his younger brother is Raul Jr.

Adalberto is the son of Raúl Mondesí who is a former professional baseball right fielder and former Dominican politician who was the mayor of San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic. As a baseball player, he was the National League (NL) Rookie of the Year in 1994, an MLB All-Star, and a two-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner.

In November 2017 he was sentenced to eight years in prison and fined 60 million pesos (approximately $1.25 million) for after he was found guilty of corruption charges when he was the mayor of San Cristobal, Dominican Republic (He was elected as the mayor in 2010).

Mondesi was added by the Royals to their active roster for the 2015 World Series becoming the first player to make his major league debut during a championship series, since Bug Holliday in 1885, when he pinch hit during Game 3 for pitcher Danny Duffy and struck out against New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard.

On 2nd November 2015, he won his first World Series ring, when the Kansas City Royals won Game 5 over the New York Mets. he began the 2016 season with a Double-A. He was suspected 50 games on May 10 after he tested positive for clenbuterol which is banned by Major League Baseball. His initial suspension was originally 80 games but was reduced due to the substance having been ingested via cold medicine.

On 16th August 2016, he hit his first major league home run against Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, becoming the youngest Royal to hit a home run since Clint Hurdle in 1978. He ended the season hitting .185/.231/.281 with nine stolen bases in 47 games.

During the 2017 season, he spent a majority of his time in AAA. He appeared in 25 games in the major leagues, batting .170/.214/.245 with five stolen bases.

In the 2018 season, he began the season in the minors but was recalled during the month of June to play shortstop regularly. He played 75 games battling .276/.306/.498 and hit 14 home runs with 32 stolen bases.
