Bill Ackman is an American hedge fund manager and investor famously known as the founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management, a hedge fund management company. Ackman considers himself as an activist investor. His Blank-Check Company Starts Trading on July 22, 2020.
Born on May 11 1966 in Chappaqua, New York to Ronnie I. (née Posner) and Lawrence David Ackman. His father David was the Ackman-Ziff Real Estate Group a New York real estate financing firm. He is of Jewish Descent.
Alongside fellow Harvard graduate, David P. Berkowitz Ackman founded the investment firm Gotham Partners in 1992. The company has made various minor investments in public companies. He partnered with the insurance and real estate firm Leucadia National in 1995 to bid for Rockefeller Center but did not win the bid.
With $54 million from his personal funds and help from his former business partner Leucadia National he personally the Pershing Square Capital Management in 2004. His funds owned a 10% stake in Target Corporation which was valued at 4.2 billion in December 2007.
