Contessa Brewer is an American National Emmy-Award winning television journalist born on 16th March 1974 in Parsonsfield, Maine, U.S. She is a CNBC correspondent and a fill-in anchor. She is popular for hosting the primetime series “Caught on Camera” on MSNBC.

In 1997 Contessa joined KMIR-TV in Palm Springs, California until 1999 and later joined KRNV-TV in Reno, Nevada. She has also worked as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter for WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In September 2003 she joined MSNBC, she briefly served as a newsreader on the Imus in the Morning radio show in spring 2005. She later appeared as the newsreader on Verdict with Dan Abrams before its cancellation in 2008. She began hosting MSNBC Live weekdays at noon, until her departure on August 26, 2011 but she continued to host ‘Caught on Camera’ and filing reports for NBC news.

In March 2012 she began doing fill-in anchor work for WNBC in New York City, mostly on weekends. In 2015 she became a freelance co-anchor for CBSN and filed stories for the CBS Evening News and ABC News. She joined CNBC in 2016 becoming a full-time correspondent and fill-in anchor in 2017.

During spring 2005 while working as a newsreader on the Imus in the Morning radio show she got involved in a public feud with Don Imus after the New York Post published a gossip item in which she was allegedly overheard dishonouring Don Imus. Imus responded on air with disparaging remarks directed at Brewer. This led to the end of her tenure at Imus.

In January 2010 Brewer interviewed New Hampshire Senator Judd Gregg, who had called for cuts in the federal budget, and raised a question about the cuts in the federal budget. Gregg failed to respond which prompted Brewer to ask “Which programs are you willing to cut? Are you willing to tell schools, no money for you?.”

Gregg reacted by saying Brewer was “absurd”, “fundamentally dishonest”, “irresponsible” and lacked “integrity” for her handling of interviews, and stated, “in your introduction to me, you said that, that education funding would be cut.”

In August 2009 Contessa was criticized and was accused of editing a video to obscure the race of the black man who was carrying an AR-15 assault rifle at an Obama appearance in Pheonix, Arizona, on August 17.

Conservative blogs condemned her for her remark on the story, “you have a man of colour in the presidency and white people showing up with guns strapped to their waists or to their legs.”

She was also criticized for her comments about the “2010 Times Square car bomb attempt”.

“There was part of me that was hoping this was not going to be anybody with ties to any kind of Islamic country, because there are a lot of people who want to use this terrorist intent to justify writing off people who believe in a certain way or come from certain countries or whose skin colour is a certain way. I mean they use it as justification for really outdated bigotry.”
