Dan Wootton is a British journalist and a broadcaster of New Zealand nationality. He was the chief editor of The Sun newspaper and later joined the News of the World in 2007. He became associate editor of The Sun in February 2016. He went to stay in England when he was 21 years old.
He was raised up in Lower Hutt, a city in the Wellington area of New Zealand. He announced on Twitter that he is gay in 2013.

Wootton’s debut in his career as a journalist began in his native home, New Zealand. He used to write an entertainment line for the Wellington-based broadsheet newspaper called The Dominion Post. He was also a reporter for the daily television show Good Morning. Dan joined The Sun newspaper in 2013 and launched a new Sunday column.
In 2014, he was selected to be the editor of the Bizarre column newspaper, and later in 2016, he was promoted to be an associate editor of showbiz on TV. At the British Press Awards in 2010, 2013, and 2018, he won the Showbiz reporter of the year award. He also appeared on Lorraine’s morning show as a showbiz reporter on ITV.
After working for trade magazines for a period of time, he found a job with Broadcast magazine. Since March 2018, He hosted a weekly talkRADIO show called “Dan’s Dilemmas. and in February 2020, he took over as host of the station’s drivetime show that replaced the Eamonn Holmes show.

Wootton and The Sun were widely rebuked in 2015 for a story headed “Hollywood HIV Panic” that he wrote for the tabloid. Tom Hayes, writing in The Independent, termed the story an “insidious piece of stigma-reinforcing journalism,” while HIV policy expert Lisa Power, who was mentioned in the piece, called it “vile” and expressed her “disappointment” that Wootton had “given his name to such a disgusting piece of journalism.”
Libel proceedings were brought by Johnny Depp in July 2020 against Woton and the News Group Newspapers at the High Court of Justice.
