Danny Aiello was an Oscar-nominated actor known for roles in major motion pictures like “Moonstruck,” “Do The Right Thing” and “The Godfather Part II”. He died on December 12, 2019 at the age of 86. According to TMZ, he was at a medical facility in New Jersey where he was being treated for a sudden illness and had suffered an infection related to his treatment.

Aiello was born in 1933 and began acting 40 years later, his first role coming in the Robert De Niro baseball drama, Bang the Drum Slowly. One of his most memorable parts came in his second film, The Godfather: Part II.
Aiello played Tony Rosato in the movie and delivered the popular line, “Michael Corleone says hello!”
Aiello is perhaps best known for his role as pizza parlor owner Sal in the 1989 Spike Lee film “Do The Right Thing,” which earned him an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor.
He also appeared in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1974 movie “The Godfather Part II” as Tony Rosato, in the follow-up to the award-winning “The Godfather.”
His other notable roles included 1987’s “Moonstruck” and 1994’s “Léon: The Professional.” Recently, he had a role in “Making a Deal with the Devil” this year, per IMDb. And many others
The actor also wrote a memoir about his storied career in 2014, “I Only Know Who I Am When I Am Somebody Else.”
