David David Ortiz popularly known as David Ortiz ‘Big Papi’ is a Dominican-American former Major League Baseball designated hitter and first baseman who played 20 seasons, primarily with the Boston Red Sox.
During his career, Ortiz amassed 541 home runs and a 286 batting average. He won the World Series three times and won the Silver Slugger, an impressive seven times. In the 2013 World Series he was voted the Most Valuable Player. In 2017, in honour of David Ortiz, the jersey No. 34 was retired by the Boston Red Sox.

Ortiz began his career on November 28, 1992, on Seattle Mariners. He was later traded to the Minnesota Twins four years later making his debut for the Twins on September 2, 1997, and played with them up until December 2002.

On June 9, 2019 David Ortiz was shot and wounded at a club in the Dominican Republic according to reports. He was taken to a local hospital in Santo Domingo and his condition is unclear. According to local reports, he was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery.
His father Leo told ESPN via telephone from the Dominican Republic that he was called but he was not his condition; “They called to tell me that David is injured and that they took him to a medical center, but they did not tell me how he is or exactly where he was transferred. At the moment, everything is confusing. I’m trying to find out where they took my son.”

According to the Daily Mail police in the Dominican Republic believe that David was shot by two cops hired by a Dominican Republic drug lord who believed the baseball player was having an affair with his wife.
Ortiz representatives have however dismissed the report about the affair but claimed that the act was of hired killers.
