Lineker was educated at Caldecote Road School in Leicester. Later he joined the City of Leicester Boy’s Gramma School because he chose to play football over rugby which was the main sport for most schools around his home.

Lineker was blessed as he was equally talented at both cricket and football. Between the age of 11 and 16, he led the Leicestershire Schools cricket team as their captain and had a feeling that he had higher chances of succeeding at it rather than football.
