Kanze Dena Biography

Kellen Beatrice Kanze Dena popularly known as Kanze Dena is a former Kiswahili news anchor on Citizen TV who anchored alongside Lulu Hassan on ‘Nipashe Wikendi‘ on Citizen Tv. She is was appointed as the Deputy State House Spokesperson and Deputy Head, PSCU by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kanze Dena Education Background

She attended Kianjokoma now St Mathew for her primary education and later joined Kieni girls secondary school for her secondary education. She has a diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from the Foundation College of Professional Studies.

Kanze Dena Career in Media

Kanze began her work in the media as an intern at KBC. She was asked to do a voice test after the KBC boss heard her voice and qualified to read bulletins on KBC radio at 4p.m. She was later poached by Citizen TV when she works as a news anchor, news Director and Producer.

Before her career in media Kanze Dena worked as a waitress in a restaurant before enrolling for a course in secretarial. She worked as a secretary before joining college to pursue a career in journalism.

Kanze Dena Deputy State House Spokesperson

Kanze Dena was appointed as the deputy State House Spokesperson and Deputy Head, PSCU by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“As part of diversifying the voices from the Presidency, focusing the concept of messaging with purpose, President Kenyatta has appointed seasoned television news anchor Kanze Dena, 39, as Deputy State House Spokesperson and Deputy Head, PSCU,” read a statement from Nzioka Waita, The Chief of Staff and Head of the President’s Delivery Unit.

Kanze Dena will take leadership of digital, messaging, research, branding and press. She has been tasked with putting the focus on President Uhuru’s brand positioning, messaging and media relations with respect to getting to the Big-Four agenda.

Lulu Hassan penned a goodbye for Kanze Dena on Twitter which read;

“I remember us sitting and giggling nervously when the news was broken to us, that we were the top anchors in the country, 4 years in a row. 4 years of holding our breath, perusing through news of the day before going on air, holding frantic conversations and arguing on random things. There is something about our profession that I cannot quite define, but I think it has to do with the fact that your real boss is the audience. And they have the final say on whether you stay. To meet their standards is hard work. But with you, the journey has been gratifying.We kept this news all under wraps for some time because our WHAT NEXT was haunting us as days passed by and yesterday it just dawned on me that woooahh this thing is real …after working together for about 5 years and a few months …I say thank you God for you know what we have been through and how our past looked like…”

Kanze Dena PSCU Boss

On 14th July 2018 Kanze Dena became the acting State House Spokesperson after her boss Manoah Esipisu was nominate as an ambassador.

“The acting State House Spokesperson is Kanze Dena,” a tweet from the Presidential Strategic Service Unit (PSCU) reads.

Kanze Dena Personal Life

Her mother was diagnosed with colon cancer and later passed on shortly after Kanze joined Citizen Tv. She contemplated suicide after her mother’s death and suffered from depression for close to one year.

“I asked God so many questions. Why had He taken her away just when we had a perfect relationship? My salvation also got very shaky and things got really bad for me. I hit depression for like a year and something. Thoughts of committing suicide returned to my mind as had been the case when I lost my daughter.”

Kanze befriended a lady called Nasril has a way to overcome her depression but unfortunately she was diagnosed with breast cancer and also died.

“My world collapsed honestly. I began keeping to myself, scared of making friendships again because, I don’t know, maybe I’m jinxed, maybe there is something wrong with me. I would just go to work because I have to work. I would read the news bulletin but if you asked me what I had just read I would be clueless.”

Kanze Dena Tribe

She hails from the Duruma subtribe of the Mijikenda in Kwale County.

Her monthly salary as per her new appointment is Kshs. 800,000

Kanze Dena Son

Kanze Dena is a single mother to a 12 year old son, Amani. He is not Kanze’s first child has she had a daughter after high school, Natasha, but she passed on when she was three months old.


Kanze Dena Husband

Kanze Dena is not married although she co parents with her ex husband. She says they had to put their differences aside for the sake of their son.
