Ken Okoth Biography
Ken Okoth (Kenneth Odhiambo Okoth) was the Kibra Member of Parliament having been elected for the first time in 2013 and reelected in 2017. He died on July 26, 2019 as a result of multiple organ failure as a result of colorectal cancer.
Prior to joining politics, Ken worked as a watchman at the Maendeleo ya Wanawake House premises. He then volunteered at the Nation and at one time was a newspaper vendor. Okoth was also supporting the legalisation of bhang and in 2018 he had given notice for the introduction of a Marijuana Control Bill in the National Assembly.

His friend and former high school classmate Fred Gori shared a photo of them on Facebook with the caption; “Last night, Kibra MP Ken Okoth told us something worth mulling over. ‘Guys, take care of your wives. You may have a lot of money for treatment but nothing equals a woman who stands by you in your moment of illness’.”

Ken Okoth Education
Ken attended Olympic Primary school and scored 613/700 in his KCPE examination. He later joined Starehe Boys’ Centre. He held an undergraduate degree in German and European Studies from St Lawrence University, USA. He also had a Master’s degree in International Relations degree from Georgetown University.
Ken Okoth Cancer
In 2018 Okoth revealed that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer which had metastasized to the liver. During an interview with Sunday Nation, he said he had been misdiagnosed and was receiving treatment ulcers and bacterial infection as he presented symptoms associated with the two. He said he was put on drugs to manage stress, a situation he said made him believe he was battling abdominal pain and weight loss.
His doctor later asked him to take an advanced scan which showed that he was actually suffering from cancer. He was put on vigorous treatment that involved combined radio and chemotherapy to avert the impending risk of organ failure. He said that he was only managing the disease as it can’t be cured since it was discovered at advanced stages.
“I will be using chemotherapy tablets that I can take every morning. Because my disease was discovered at a very advanced stage; it cannot be cured. It can only be managed.”
Ken Okoth Death
Ken Okoth died on July 26, 2019 at Nairobi Hospital due to multiple organ failure. He had been admitted on July 25 after developing organ failure and had been put on ICU.His death was confirmed by his brother Imran Okoth who said he had died on Friday at around 4 PM after he asked his family to switch off the life support machine.
