Laurence M. Baer is the Chief Executive Officer of the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball. He took up the position on January 1st, 2012, succeeding Bill Neukom. On March 1st, 2019, TMZ showed a video of Baer dragging his wife Pam out of a chair and causing her to fall to the ground during a public altercation. Baer was suspended by the Major League’s Baseball (MLB) commissioner from his position as the CEO of Giants on March 26th, 2019 until July 1st without pay following his altercation with his wife.
Baer was born to a Jewish family and attended Lowell High School in San Francisco and the University of California, Berkeley. He served as the sports director and business manager of KALX, the student-run radio station. As a junior student Baer negotiated with Oakland Athletics’ owner Charlie Finley to make KALX the official radio station of the Athletics for its first 16 games.

Under his ownership, The San Francisco Giants won World Series championships in 2012 and 2014. The club has also had a run of financially profitable seasons under Baer. From 2014 to 2016 the Giants enjoyed their longest home sellout streak in recent memory and welcomed more than 3.3 million fans per year. They also sold over 30,000 season tickets during this period.

On March 1st, 2019, TMZ video showed Larry Baer dragged Pam out of a chair and caused her to fall to the ground during a public altercation. Witnesses say the two were in a loud argument and Baer tried to take a cell phone away from his wife. Two witnesses here at the scene said they intervened during the altercation and separated the two as the wife screamed for help.
Baer spoke with the San Francisco Chronicle about the incident … saying, “My wife and I had an unfortunate public argument related to a family member & she had an injured foot and she fell off her chair in the course of the argument.”
“The matter is resolved. It was a squabble over a cell phone. Obviously, it’s embarrassing.”
On 2nd March Pam released a statement through her attorney defending
‘My husband and I had an argument in public about which we are quite embarrassed. I took his cellphone. He wanted it back and I did not want to give it back. I started to get up and the chair I was sitting on began to tip due to an injury I sustained in my foot three days ago, I lost my balance. I did not sustain any injury based on what happened today. Larry and I always have been and still are happily married.

The MLB front office announced on March 26th, 2019 that commissioner Robert Manfred had suspended San Francisco Giants CEO and minority owner Larry Baer until July 1st —essentially half the baseball season—without pay for the altercation with his wife that was caught on video and published by TMZ earlier this month. The unpaid nature of the suspension will be back-dated to March 4th, the day Baer took a leave of absence.
