Rachael Rapinoe Biography – Meghan Rapinoe Sister

Rachael Rapinoe (Rachael Elizabeth Rapinoe) is the twin sister of Megan Rapinoe. She is a former soccer player who played for Starjnan Women in Iceland and the United States women’s national under-23 soccer team. She is the co-founder and CEO of Mendi and also Rapinoe SC.

Rachael and Megan are fraternal twins with Rachael being the older one with 11 minutes. The two are both soccer players but Rachael retired in 2012. They were introduced to soccer by their older brother Brian. Megan plays for the for and captains Reign FC in the National Women’s Soccer League, as a midfielder and winger.

Megan wrote on The Players Tribute that she and her sister were very close growing up.

“I used to follow Rachael around — and I mean like physically. I was always right on her heels, about two feet behind her, for the entirety of seventh grade. I don’t know how, but she just had it all figured out. She was the queen bee. So I was her shadow, and I was totally cool with that. You know in Planet Earth, how those little fish kind of chill on top of the dolphins or the whales or whatever, and ride around with them? That was me. I was the little Nemo fish, like, ‘So what’re we doing today?’ Rachael saved me. Without her, I don’t even know how I would’ve handled The Wonder Years.”

Rachael Rapinoe Soccer

Rachael attended Foothill High School where she played both basketball and track but did not play soccer initially. Together with Megan they later played for club soccer team Elk Grove United which in 2003 was ranked number one nationally and finished second at the 2003 U-19 National Championships.

After she joined University of Portland she joined their soccer team, Portland Pilots as a defender, in 2006 after a midseason she switched to being forward after her sister Megan experienced an ACL injury. She scored nine goals and seven assists, including five goals in four playoff games. She also played for the United States women’s national under-23 soccer team in 2006.

She was named Co-Player of the Week by West Coast Conference in 2007. In the same year, she experienced a torn knee ligament injury which re-torn in 2008. In July 2010 she signed with Icelandic professional women’s team, Stjarnan Women. She made five appearances for the team and scored two goals.

In 2012 she announced her retirement from soccer after she tore her ligament again.

Rachael Rapinoe Coaching Career

Rachael also acted as a coach in 2011 she was chosen to represent the United States by the International Center’s Sports Corps program in the Indonesia America Soccer Exchange where she helped conduct three one-day training clinics for an estimated 200–300 female athletes and 30 coaches. She also hosted youth soccer camps with Megan Rapinoe.

In September 2012 Rachael became the brand marketing coordinator, NA Soccer for Nike until September 2013. In June 2014 she joined Elite Clubs National League, Inc as an activation specialist.

We have an elite soccer & performance training business in the Portland area.
