Smith passed away on Tuesday 26th after battling COVID-19. He went to college at Jackson State in Mississippi before starting his career at the Clarion-Ledger in Jackson. He became a beat Writer Covering the Indiana Pacers for the Indianapolis Star and the Atlanta Hawks for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution before joining Turner Sports in 2009.

He served as an analyst for r NBA TV, a writer for NBA.com, and a host of the Hang Time Podcast, and for more than a decade he starred across all platforms for Turner.

Upon his untimely death, Many stars sent their condolences to his Heather and their kids.”We are all heartbroken over Sekou’s tragic passing. His commitment to journalism and the basketball community was immense and we will miss his warm, engaging personality,” Turner Sports said in a statement. “He was beloved by his Turner Sports and NBA friends and colleagues. Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones.”

According to multiple online sources NBA Reporter Sekou Smith died on Tuesday aged 48 years old. He died after a battle with COVID-19. After graduating from Jackson State University in 1997, Smith covered the Pacers writing for the Indianapolis Star. He also covered the Hawks while a writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

In his Nearly two-decade career within the basketball world, Sekou was universally beloved within the Basketball world. He was a kind person one who was ever smiling and present. Tributes followed his untimely death.
