Toni-Ann Singh has been crowned Miss World 2019 becoming the first woman of Jamaican descent to win the title since 1993.

Toni attended Florida State University where she studied a degree in psychology and women’s studies.

Toni-Ann Singh Singer

Singh is also a singer but not professionally. She told The Gleaner that she was classically trained from the time she arrived in the U.S. and that singing had been a big part of her life as a child.

“I’ve been singing since I was very young. I sang in church with the children’s choir, and I’ve been classically trained since I was nine. I would say it’s a thing in my family, because we all like to sing together. I even have an uncle on my mom’s side who does music a lot – Prince Theo.”

She said in an interview that she once considered recording music professionally, but that her medical career takes precedent.

“I think there was a time when I [wanted to sing], when I really thought about what I wanted to do with my life – and that turned out to be serving people, and medicine, and helping people in my community. I haven’t written it off. If the doors open, why not?”

Before the final round of Miss World 2019 she did a rendition of Whitney Houston ‘I Have Nothing’.

Singh is the Miss Jamaica 2019, she was asked to join the Miss Jamaica World competition by Miss Jamaica World 2005 Terri-Karelle Reid. Singh competed in the Florida Caribbean Association and that’s where she met Terri.

“I had a platform working on, so I entered the Florida Caribbean Association pageant and Terri was one of the judges and she asked me if I would enter Miss Jamaica World and I decided to give it a try.”

Miss World 2019 Winner

On December 14, 2019 Toni-Ann Singh was crowned Miss World 2019 becoming the fourth contestant of Jamaican descent to win the crown.

After the win she took to Instagram where she posted a photo of herself with the crown with the caption;

“My Jamaica, sweet Jamaica🇯🇲we did it! Wah we seh? LIKKLE BUT WE TALLAWAH. My heart is filled with love and gratitude. Thank you so much for believing in me. You pushed me to believe in myself. I am not only honored but humbled to be the 69th Miss World. Thank you to my family and to my friends. The love and support you poured into me now allows me to pour into the world.
My mother @jahrinebailey, I love you I love you I love you. I wish to become even half the woman you are. You are my strength, my number one supporter/cheerleader/fan and my absolute best friend.
