Chris Burrous’ ‘sweatergate’
In May 2016 Chris Burrous handed meteorologist Liberté Chan a sweater, while on air, to cover up her bare shoulders. Chan was in the middle of broadcasting when an arm appeared on the side of the screen dangling a gray cardigan. Chan was confused and asked ” what’s going on? You want me to put this on? Why? Cause it’s cold in here?”
Chris responded saying that they were getting many emails about her dress. To which can responded “What? Really?’.
The video went viral on social media and was dubbed ‘sweatergate’. Many people called for an apology from the station although Chan on her part said they were no hard feeling.
Chan took on Twitter to explain how she ended up in a cocktail dress at 8 a.m tweeting that her original black and white dress clashed with the green screen and turned her dress partially transparent.
According to her personal blog she said the station received several emails complaining about her bare shoulders and Chris gave her the sweater as a joke.
“For the record, I was not ordered by KTLA to put on the sweater. I was simply playing along with my co-anchor’s joke, and if you’ve ever watched the morning show, you know we poke fun at each other all the time. And, also for the record, there is no controversy at KTLA. My bosses did not order me to put on the cardigan, it was a spontaneous moment.”
