Ohio State football doesn’t do a lot of recruiting on the west coast and due to this reason Chris Olave had to sit out his junior season after transferring schools. In October 2017 he got an offer from Ohio State, on 11th November 2017, he made a visit to Ohio State University the day of the Michigan game.

Chris has also said that he received offers from schools like Michigan, Tennessee, USC, Utah, and UCLA but narrowed his final choices to Ohio State and UCLA.

“I didn’t have any junior year highlights, and then my senior year, midseason came out and then Ohio State was the first big offer, so I kind of jumped on it. And then all other schools started to come after Ohio State came.”

During an interview with SanDiego Tribune, he said that his parents never tried to influence his decision. He said that the day after returning from Columbus he saw a sign that he wanted to join Ohio when he saw a car with Ohio State license plate as it was rare to see such things in his hometown.

“There are three lights between where we live and the school. I looked up and the car in front of us had an Ohio State license plate rim. I’ve never seen that before. It was just another sign pointing me to Ohio State.”

Chris was officially signed to Ohio State on 22nd January 2018. After he got signed Chris didn’t walk into an ideal situation at the Ohio States as Buckeyes returned all six of their starting wide receivers from the year prior. Olave impressed during offseason workouts and during fall camp. Olave was given an opportunity after Austin Mack, a junior receiver, got a foot injury that required surgery.
