Sarah Hay Biography

Sarah Hay is an American actress and ballerina born on 16th September 1987 in New York City, U.S. She is best known for her role as Claire Robbins in the Starz mini-series Flesh and Bone which earned her a Satellite Award for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film in 2016.

Sarah made her acting debut in 1997 when she was cast as Stephanie in “You’re Invited to Mary-Kate and Ashley’s Ballet Party”. She made her film debut in 2010 as a dancer in Black Swan. In 2015 she was cast as Claire Robbins in the Starz mini-series Flesh and Bone.

Sarah Hay Family

Sarah’s parents names are not in the public domain but they are both psychologists. Her brother is an opera singer, her grandfather was a member of the New York Philharmonic, and her grandmother was a New York art dealer.

Sarah Hay Ballerina

Sarah is a Balerina, she began taking dancing classes at the age of 3 and at the age of 8 she became a member of New York City’s School of American Ballet. She later attended the prestigious Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School of Ballet through the American Ballet Theatre.

Sarah has said that she faced obstacles due to her body and based on America’s definition of a dancer body, she was labelled as the fat or heavy girl and some teachers even suggested she get a breast reduction surgey. Some even encouraged her to quit ballet as a teenager and instead to try to be a modern dancer as she was talented but didn’t fit the part.

After she left the School of American Ballet she took open classes at the Princeton Dance and Theater Studio under the teaching of Susan Jaffe, who encouraged her to try out for the American Ballet Theatre’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School where she spent three years.

She later returned to open dance classes after she received criticised by some of the artistic staff who said she was not focused. She was noticed by Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, Charlotte Ballet artistic director, at Steps on Broadway. She immediately received an offer to join another company. It was there that she first danced to contemporary ballet. However, after two years of working under the resident choreographer, she did not feel as though she was being challenged so she went back to doing auditions.

After an open call Hay landed at the Pennsylvania Ballet. She spent two years at the company and also two years dancing as an apprentice.

She was coached for William Forsythe’s “In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated,” and her coach, Jodie Gates, identified Hay immediately as a standout and encouraged her to go to a workshop at Dresden where the artistic director at Semperoper Ballet, Aaron S. Watkin, mentioned possibly hiring Hay when a contract came up.

Hay returned to the United States and after a month she got the call from Watkin to finally accept her very first ballet corps contract in Germany. At the age of 23 Hay relocated to Europe to join a German dance company. She danced with the Semperoper opera house in Dresden, Germany. She worked with William Forsythe very closely on “Impressing the Czar,” a full-length ballet.

Hay made her debut on the big screen in “Black Swan” in 2010 where she was cast as a dancer although she does not consider it as a part of her acting resume.

Logan’s wife, Diane Gaeta filed for divorce on 5th April 2019 and alleged that Sarah had slept with Logan despite him being married and having two kids.
