Tabatha Bundesen was the owner of the famous Grumpy Cat from Morristown Arizona which gained instant fame for her angry expression. The initial photo of the cat was posted by Tabatha’s brother, Bryan Bundesen, to a sub-Reddit in September of 2012 when the cat was just four months old. The cat named, Tardar Sauce, died on 14th May 2019 from complications from a urinary tract infection.

Tabatha has a daughter known as Chyrstal Bundesen. According to her Tabatha, Chyrstal was the one who named the Grumpy cat as Tardar Sauce because of the cat’s colouring at birth. She said that the cat started off a whitish-orange colour before it turned black.

“She started off a whitish-orange colour and then turned black. And I don’t think I knew how to spell tartar.”

Chyrstal appeared alongside her mother and the cat at various public events. They made an appearance at an Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game in Phoenix in 2015.

Tabatha was the owner of the Grumpy Cat which achieved success on the internet after her brother shared the cat’s photo to a sub-Reddit in September of 2012, at the time the cat was just four months old. Within 48 hours, the photo earned more than 1 million views on Imgur and Grumpy Cat’s face became a pop-culture staple. The Grumpy Cat’s had a form of dwarfism that created a perpetual frown.

Tabatha explained the cat memorable expression on an official website: “Her petite size and famous face is likely due to feline dwarfism and her rear end wobbles a bit when she walks due to this; otherwise she is a perfect little kitty! She is not a munchkin cat and was not bred purposefully from other munchkin cats. (We don’t breed kitty’s and her parents are normal sized domestic shorthair cats.)”

At the time the cat became a worldwide sensation Tabatha was working as a waitress at a restaurant called Western Trails Ranch in Phoenix. Due to the cat instant success, she was able to quit her job in order to expand her pet’s brand full time.

The cat was featured in advertising campaigns for Friskies and General Mills’ Honey Nut Cheerios. The cat also made an appearance on the season finale of The Bachelorette in 2014. It was also featured as a special guest on the November 17, 2014, edition of WWE Monday Night Raw. In 2016 the cat made a special appearance on Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark.

After Tabitha quit her waitress job she founded a company known as Grumpy Cat Limited which she registered in February 2013.

On the Grumpy Cat’s website, she sells products which include; T-shirts, coffee mugs, pillows, coasters, bags, pens, and books.

She also released a book titled “Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book” which reportedly sold more than 500,000 copies in 15 different languages shortly after it was released according to Hollywood Reporter.

According to her manager, Ben Lashes the Grump Cat had generated as much as $100 million in revenue at that time and shared that the cat was insured.

Grumpy Cat Limited Lawsuit

Tabatha and her company Grumpy Cat Limited were involved in a copyright lawsuit that took three years. According to the complaint, Grumpy Cat Limited signed a deal with Grenade in 2013 to sell iced coffees called “Grumpy Cat Grumppuccino” but in 2015 Tabatha alleged that Grenade created a second product called “Grumpy Cat Roasted Coffee.”

According to her, the product was not part of the original contract and Bundesen sued for copyright infringement. She also accused Grenade of selling T-shirts and not sharing the profits.

Tabatha won the lawsuit and her company was awarded $710,000 in damages from Grenade Beverage LLC.

Grumpy Cat Death

Grumpy cat died on May 14, 2019, Tabatha said that the cat; “encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome. Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world — even when times were tough. Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.”
