El Chapo’s Wife – Emma Coronel Aispuro Wiki
El Chapo married Emma Coronel Aispuro, a Mexican former teenage beauty queen born on 3rd July 1989, in 2007. The two met in 2006 at a party hosted by Emma’s father. The two got married on 2nd July 2007 in a ceremony surrounded by armed security guards.
The two have twins born in the summer of 2012 but Guzman’s name was left off the children’s birth certificates because the U.S. Department of State was offering a bounty of five million dollars for his capture.
In 2007 Colonel entered the Coffee and Guava Festival beauty pageant in Canelas, Durango. Each contestant was required to host a party in honor of her candidacy and Emma held hers on Three Kings Day. AOn the day of the party El Chapo, whom she had met the previous year, entered the town accompanied by hundreds of armed men and publicly announced his intention to marry her.
After Coronel won the contest El Chapo appeared with three bands to celebrate the coronation. Her reign was however short-lived as it ended after her marriage to El Chapo, passing the crown to the first runners up.
Coronel claims that when she was marrying El Chapo she never knew he was involved in anything illegal. During an interview with Telemundo Coronel said she never saw her husband do anything illegal and blamed the media for his notoriety.
“They’ve given him way too much fame, I feel like people created an image of him and they want that image to remain in the public’s consciousness, because it’s the newsworthy image, it’s the image that sells. So when someone says he’s a humble and simple man, they don’t want to hear that, they want him to be the infamous ‘El Chapo,’ and I don’t think that’s fair.”
During El Chapo’s trial his attorneys filled a request with the judge to allow him hug his wife but the offer was turned down. The judge arguing that security concerns trumped El Chapo’s desire to hug his wife.
On 12th February 2019, it was reported that Emma hired personal bodyguards as on 7th January a Spanish man who claimed to be Chapo’s relative was arrested in the courtroom on an open warrant. Emma and Chapo denied knowing the man and was taken to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody pending deportation to his native country.
