His parents Dwyane Wade and Siohvaughn Funches were high school sweethearts. The two met when Funchess was in fifth grade and began dating when they were just 15 years old. When Wade was just 20 and at college in Marquette, Wisconsin, Siohvaughn fell pregnant with their first son, Zaire. The two married in 2002 but divorced in 2010. Wade filed for divorce in 2007

In 2016 Wade was granted permission by a judge to relocate with his sons Zaire and Zion. He had to get permission from a judge as part of his custody agreement with ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches.

The judge said that ‘there is no good cause not to permit the relocation’.

In their 2014 custody agreement, Wade was awarded sole ‘care, custody and control’ of the kids, who were immediately moved from Illinois – where Funches lived at the time – to Miami to be with their father.

During the divorce process, Siohvaughn Funches was arrested at one point for allegedly trying to abduct their kids. Throughout the court battle, she accused Wade of being a bad father, giving her an STD, and trying to alienate her from the kids.

Wade denied all the allegations and a second lawsuit spurred out of the STD allegation. The couple reached a financial settlement in 2013, six years after their split. According to Wade’s attorney, the divorce was settled at $5million.
